Description

A group of sauropod dinosaurs known as Brachiosaurus flourished in North America
between 154 and 150 million years ago during the Late Jurassic.
Elmer S. Riggs, an American paleontologist, initially described it in 1903 using fossils
he had discovered in western Colorado along the Colorado River.
In honor of its relatively long arms, Riggs gave the dinosaur the general name Brachiosaurus altithorax,
which is Greek for “arm lizard,” and the specific name Brachiosaurus altithorax, which means “deep chest.”
The estimated length of Brachiosaurus was between 59 and 72 feet (18 to 22 meters),
and its estimated body weight ranged from 28.3 to 58 metric tons (31.2 and 64 short tons).
In contrast to sauropods, it featured an abnormally long neck, a tiny head, and a big body size.
