Description
A black panther is a melanistic color variation of a leopard (Panthera pardus) and a jaguar (Panthera onca).
Both types of black panthers have an abundance of black pigments, but they also have rosettes.
The Americas’ black jaguars have been spotted in Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, and Paraguay,
while black leopards have been spotted in Kenya, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, and Java.
Melanism is caused by dominant alleles in jaguars and recessive alleles in leopards.
